I am using this page to help drop some useful resources for families in NY and outside of NY. It is a work in progress and I welcome any suggestions.

New York Families Foundations to check out:

Friends of Karen- https://www.friendsofkaren.org

This was the first organization I worked with when Tenzin was diagnosed. I cannot tell you how warm and compassionate they are. They immediately asked my needs and offered help financially where they could. Additionally they check in monthly on me and the boys. They also offer online art and other support groups for the Cancer Kids and siblings.

Contractors for Kids- https://contractorsforkids.org

Extremely helpful foundation for financial support. The application process is lengthy and you do need the time to get paperwork in order but once submitted it is a breeze. All I have to do is shoot an email along with copies of the bills I need help with and it is taken to the board for their gifting meetings. They pay directly to the company (i.e. Sprint, Ford, mortgage company). They also send copies of the checks they mail to keep for your own records.

Kids for Kids- https://www.kidsforkidsnyc.org

wonderful humans are behind this foundation. They assist financially and offer some great opportunities for the kids and families to attend sponsored events.

Kids Need More- https://kidsneedmore.org

I would say this is more specific to Long Island, NY families. My non ck older son attended camp with them. No only did they support him emotionally, they kept in touch with me daily. They even provided transportation to and from camp. Throughout the year they offer virtual classes for games and fun events. During the holidays they send a bus around with volunteers to deliver gifts to families. My older son also does art therapy with them throughout the year. I am not doing them enough justice so they are definitely one to look up and contact to gain more information.

this foundation helped me financially with a payment towards bills. They advocate, provide financial support, emotional support, educate and more.

This foundation offers so much. Initially they helped me with my phone bill while I was in the hospital. They also offer different programs for the kids and families. We were connected with a young adult mentor for my boys from a local college.

Corey's Promise- https://www.coreyspromise.org

This is a local family who started a foundation while their son was sick. His story needs to be shared. I spoke with Corey's father on the phone and was so touched by what they are doing. They help families financially with a child diagnosed with cancer.

This foundation is near and dear to my hear because the kindness in Andrea's heart is so pure. Andrea Jaeger not only helped my family financially but she is someone I am bonded to for life. We spoke on the phone about Tenzin and my family's needs. She used Tenzin's pictures for part of her annual calendar and sent me enough copies to share with family and friends. She is just such a kind soul and someone other need to know about.

The grant can be to cover day to day expenses such as groceries, bills, rent/mortgage etc. They can also offer character visits. Their background story is pretty amazing and definitely worth looking into.

My Parker Project- https://myparkerproject.org

Pinky Swear- https://pinkyswear.org

This one is also near and dear to my heart. They help financially with gas cards, grocery cards but they also offer programs throughout the year. The boys and I participated in online activities in which we were linked with college students. We did a cupcake war and an edible science experiment. The boys loved connecting with the students and doing something fun. They also sent both of my boys cards on their birthdays.

Casey Cares- https://www.caseycares.org/

Such an uplifting and supportive foundation. They have creative ways to make the kids and the families days. They have sent up blankets, small gifts, board game and even offered events for free. They are so worth looking into.

Savvy Giving By Design- https://savvygivingbydesign.org/

These woman work magic. When I initially reached out I didn't expect much especially since they really didn't work in my area. But I figured it couldn't hurt to ask. Initially due to location it didn't look like we would be able to make anything work. All of a sudden a month later I received the sweetest email explaining that they were able to locate a designer willing to make over BOTH of the boys' rooms. Now this was a lengthy process which we were totally willing to go on. The idea of a room makeover meant a lot to the boys and I. We had moved a month before Tenzin's diagnosis so I didn't have much time to get their rooms in order. I wanted them each to have a place of fun and calm in our home especially with what we were going through. Our designer came to our home and spoke to the boys about their ideas. She was so open and lovely. For months we went back and forth about furniture, timelines, fundraising etc. On Tenzin's birthday it all came together and the rooms were completed. Each of the boys had a freshly painted room, beautiful themed design and new furniture. I cannot even thank them enough for the gift they gave us.
